Tara got her first concussion in a competitive cycling race after hitting her head on the pavement. She had no broken bones and did not consider the risk of a head injury. She experienced concussion symptoms immediately such as severe nausea, but the on-site healthcare provider didn’t give her a concussion recovery plan.
After experiencing ongoing concussion symptoms such as depression and anxiety, she found a concussion specialist who was able to give her a concussion treatment plan. Tara later got another concussion from falling down the stairs. This time, she experienced concussion symptoms such as extreme ups and downs of emotions. She now wants to educate people about the severity of concussions and importance of concussion awareness.
