As an athlete, fitness coach, and schoolteacher, Kristen is familiar with concussions in sports. However, her concussion was not sports related. She got her concussion from getting hit in the head with a rock on the schoolyard. She experiences concussion symptoms including impaired vision and balance, trouble focusing, nausea and dizziness, and concussion headaches. Kristen went to a couple doctors who did not take her concussion seriously until visiting her family physician who was able to provide concussion treatment.
Kristen recommends everyone take a baseline concussion test whether or not you’re involved in sports. She also is increasing concussion awareness and educating people about concussion symptoms and what people experience throughout concussion recovery. Kristen’s 3 recommendations are to be patient with your concussion recovery, see a concussion doctor and follow their concussion treatment plan, and get a concussion assessment before and after the injury.
